The V.E.M. laser sensor is the particle sensor inside the NYDZ-QR fresh air unit — the part that measures PM2.5 and tells the air purifier how hard to work.

What it is for

The sensor shines a laser through the air stream and reads how much light the dust particles scatter. That reading is what appears on the LCD display module and what drives automatic mode, so the unit speeds up when the air is dirty and settles down when it is clean. A sensor that has clogged with dust or failed will leave the unit stuck on one speed or showing a reading that never changes — that is when it is worth replacing.
